Have You Any Dreams You'd Like to Sell?
Had a strange dream last night. I don't remember what it was, except that in this dream, my grandma was hosting a birthday pary for this 1-year-old kid who kinda looked like a real-life version of Tommy from The Rugrats. And so I didn't have a present to give him, so I made a sardine can out of modeling clay and gave it to him. He did not take that well. Then later on we all sat around the TV and watched this show called What Your Ex Doesn't Like About Me.I woke up at, like, 5 a.m. with a dry mouth and an urgent need to (as my paternal uncle used to say) pinch a kidney.
Here's my take on the whole dream thing: I do not believe in dreams as big, prophetic messages. I believe they are just your subconscious trying to process all that you've gone through. You make big-box decisions based on dreams you have, and then you run into trouble. "Follow your dreams," they always say. I beg to differ. I think the really important thing to do is use your brain.
On that note, I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I'm 34 years old and I do not consider myself fully grown up. They ask you as a kid what you want to be when you grow up, and you have these big dreams of being an astronaut or a football player or a rockstar, and then as you get older you develop more subtle, realistic goals. Then you find out that that life isn't as glamorous as it seems. Something to think about

Happy Fall, Y'all!
Well, it's that time of year again. Time for the annual proliferation of Pumpkin Spice-flavored food and commercials that employ inappropriate Halloween imagery such as "A scary good part of this complete breakfast!" :)
No, seriously, folks, I like pumpkin patches and apple cider as much as the next guy, but to me it is a time of honest reflection. "Okay," you ask, "what are we reflecting on?" Over the summer I had a part time gig watering flowers and feeding birds. I also maintained a garden, which yielded a huge crop of tomatoes. I found this hard to maintain, however, as we hardly got any rain and it was really scorchingly hot. I had to stay inside with the air conditioning most days, and one thing I really struggle with is being cooped up.
So I'm gonna do like our old friend Humpty Dumpty and have a great fall, to make up for a terrible summer. :)
It wasn't all bad, though. My mom started a new job this fall, which was a refreshing change of pace from her old job as a Guest Services person at the trauma hospital. Her new coworker was someone I recognized as having gone to high school with. Small world... I needed to reconnect with someone from that turbulent period of my life, just to have some closure.
Pretty soon, it'll be Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and then New Year's, which I do not consider to be a truly serious holiday. Sure, it comes once a year! Doesn't make it a holiday! Okay, now I'm just rambling. Peace, man.
